A cross, probably, is one of the oldest symbols used by humans. What does the cross symbolise? Maybe the four world countries, four elements? Maybe for a primitive human it were two crossed branches of a tree which were rubbed into each other to get the fire? The fire that gives warmth and helps to survive. Maybe that is why the symbols of crosses are found in the stone age caves?
