Ever since then, when the ancestors Aistians of the current Lithuanians settled at the Baltic Sea, which then was generously shoveling amber on the strands, it was started to be used in a specific way. As soon as a baby is born, there used to be a piece of amber hung above one's bed as a blessing of the sea and sun gods and protection from evil spirits. Later that piece of amber used to be hung on the growing child's neck as an amulet.
Amber suits a person of any age. It is thought that it protects the small from illnesses and accidents wrapping them with a protective veil. It also suits the children who have speaking difficulties because of an experienced fright or simply require too much attention. Beads have long been worn by those who suffer from goiter or thyroid problems.
